Questions about consent and your data
Understand how your sample and report will be handled before agreeing to testing.
Ask before you consent
Consent should come after you understand what is being tested, who can access the report and how long your sample and data are kept. Ask these questions before agreeing, not after.
Testing on behalf of someone else
Where a test is ordered for a child or another person, ask what consent is required and who is entitled to see the result. Treat the answer as part of the decision to test.
Changing your mind
Ask what happens if you withdraw consent, including what can and cannot be undone once a sample has been processed.
